Kenya Airways Baggage Allowance

Kenya Airways Baggage Allowance Exceptions

Kenya Airways has a baggage allowance policy that varies from route to route. For international routes, both intra Africa and outside Africa, the airline offers a more generous baggage allowance. For domestic flights, however, passengers generally face restrictions both in the number of luggage and the weight of the luggage. However, there are some exceptions when it comes to the Kenya Airways baggage allowance policy. These include the following:-

  • Passengers travelling on Kenya Airways from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia are allowed to carry a single free bottle of Holy Water. The maximum capacity allowed is 5 litres. The bottle of Holy Water must be sealed using a plastic covering so as to prevent leakage. The airline offers no liabilities on Holy Water so you cannot file claims in case it is lose or damaged. To ensure ease of handling, the airline allows a maximum weight of each piece of luggage of only 32Kg or 70lbs. The total dimensions of the luggage should not exceed 158cm or 62 inches in either the length, the width or the height.

  • Under special authorizations or conditions, passengers may be allowed to bring on board non regular items such as motorized wheelchairs or even special sporting equipment. This may be accepted as checked baggage even if they exceed 32kgs. Bags originating from Bangkok, Dubai, Guangzhou or Hong Kong must have dimensions not exceeding 180cm or 71 inches on the length, width or height.

  • Apart from the cabin baggage allowance, if you will be travelling with an infant, you will be entitled to a single collapsible stroller as well as a car seat free of charge.

  • A passenger travelling on Kenya Airways who is incapacitated is allowed to carry a single wheelchair or any other mobility device free of charge.

  • Where interline traffic or codeshare traffic is involved, the actual allowance may change and the Kenya Airways baggage allowance terms may not necessarily apply.

  • Any free baggage allowance applied will be indicated on your airline ticket or in the Departure Control System.

For additional inquiries on its baggage allowance, please get in touch with the Kenya Airways Customer Service.

Kenya Airways Baggage Allowance Policy

Kenya Airways Baggage Allowance

Read this page for information on the Kenya Airways baggage allowance. Like most airlines, Kenya Airways allows luggage to be carried into the cabin and as checked cabin free of charge up to a certain weight limit, size and for a number of luggage pieces.

The Kenya Airways luggage restrictions also depend on factors such as the route to be travelled as well as the cabin class that you will be travelling. As a passenger, it is important to be well acquainted with a particular airline’s baggage allowance policy so as to avoid additional problems or any conveniences during check in.

Here is a simple overview of Kenya Airways baggage allowance policy that you will need to familiarize yourself with when planning to fly with the airline:-

Carry-on Luggage on Kenya Airways

Every passenger flying on Kenya Airways is allowed to carry a single bag as long as it adheres to the following requirements:-

  • The maximum dimensions of the carry-on luggage that you bring into Kenya Airways should be 54cm by 36cm by 20cm.
  • The maximum weight of the carry on luggage that you bring with you into Kenya Airways should be 10kg or 22 pounds.

Apart from your carry on luggage, you can also carry with you with the following items free of charge:-

  • A ladies handbag
  • A walking stick or umbrella
  • A laptop sized bag or briefcases
  • Some reading materials, a reasonable amount
  • A blanket, wrap or overcoat
  • Crutches and other prosthetic devices
  • A baggage trolley that is collapsible

The carry-on luggage that you bring with you to the cabin must be stowed away beneath your seat or placed in the overhead compartment. Keep in mind that the bulkhead seats will not have an underseat storage during the take off and landing.

Kenya Airways Checked Baggage Allowance

The checked baggage allowances apply only on the Kenya Airways operated flights and are often subject to change. That means the same restrictions will not apply on Kenya Airways partner airlines. Those airlines will have their own baggage allowance policies. The baggage allowance policy may also be subject to change depending on the aircraft used on the day of the travel. Cambodian VISA for Kenyan Citizens

Cambodia is increasingly becoming one of the destinations for Kenyan globetrotters. Most of the Kenyans who move to Cambodia are either aid workers, workers for non profits, educational consultants, teachers and the occasional nomads looking for new experiences. There are also Kenyan spouses of Kenyans or citizens of other country who moved to Cambodia.

The small Kenyan community in Cambodia stays mostly in Phnom Penh although you can meet a few Kenyans in Cambodian cities like Siem Reap.

How to Apply for a Cambodian Visa as a Kenyan Citizen

Kenya is one of the countries that qualify for a Cambodian e-visa. That means for a fee of $30 plus $7 visa processing fee, you can apply for a Cambodian visa while still in Kenya to make things easier for you as you move to Cambodia.

Important things to keep in mind when travelling to Cambodia as a Kenyan:-

  • Make sure you have booked a return ticket otherwise most airlines will not allow you to board your flight.
  • Make sure you have booked an accommodation where you will stay and you have a receipt and contact details for the accommodation establishment to smoothen your way with the immigration department. Most accommodation in Cambodia is quite cheap and you can easily book online.
  • Have at least $1000 in cash with you.

Details about the Cambodian Tourist Visa

  • This is a single entry visa. If you are looking for a multiple entry visa that allows you to visit surrounding countries before jetting back into Kenya, you can apply for that on arrival at the Phnom Penh International Airport.
  • The Visa is valid for only 30 days. You can renew visa when you are in Cambodia for longer stays.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry.
  • You can renew your tourist visa for another 30 days for a cost of $45.
  • You cannot renew your tourist visa twice. After the initial renewal, you must make a “visa-run” and re-enter Cambodia to get a new visa. You can do this by taking a bus tour to Vietnam or Thailand. You can also take a flight to nearby countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Laos etc.

Other types of Cambodian Visa

Apart from the 30 day tourist visa, there are other types of Cambodian visas that you can apply for depending on your purpose for travel. These include the following:-

Ordinary Visa

You can apply for the Cambodian ordinary visa if you are planning to stay in the country for a longer period of time. The visa is valid  for only 30 days but the advantage over the tourist visa is that you can renew it indefinitely. The visa does not, however, give you the right to work in Cambodia. To work in the country, you must obtain a Cambodian work permit although you can get a visa even without a work permit.

Details About the Cambodia Ordinary Visa

  • The ordinary visa can be extended inside Cambodia for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. It is generally advisable to extend it for either 6 months or 12 months. The 6 and 12 month ordinary visas are multiple entry visas while the 1 and 3 month ordinary visas are single entry.

Important details to keep in mind: A lot of airlines will not allow you to board a flight to Cambodia with a one-way ticket so you may need to book a return ticket or a fully refundable ticket that you will be able to cancel once you arrive in Phnom Penh.
